Who am I?

I was born on 11/23/1977, at Huangshi, Hubei (China).

When I was a child, I loved to dissemble and assemble toys. Well, I guess most time just torn them apart and could not restore. Anyway, since then I found myself the interest of engineering. Therefore, I went to Tsinghua University (Beijing, China, as said number one engineering school in China) when I was 17 and earned my B.S and M.S. in the filed of precision engineering there. After that, I came to the United States and enrolled Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2001. Five days ago, I came back from MIT 2006 commencement with my Ph.D. Wow, what a joyful moment!

Graduation !!!

Well, I have to say that I have a number of hobbies. I enjoy hacking my XBOX, repairing and maintaining my car… But none of them I enjoy so deeply as photography. My father bought me a Seagull 4A (a Chinese copy of Rolleicord TLR) when I entered middle school. However, I did not shoot many photos until early 2005 I finally bought a Canon digital Rebel. I would have to say digital SLR is so fantastic that I can basically shoot as many as I want. However, film still has its own special charm that I can never stop loving in it.

My career is doing research on the field of optics and computational photography. It makes me always have a irresistible enthusiasm on photo gears. I shoot digital and film mainly with a set of Canon EOS gears, plus a vintage Pentax Spotmatic F manual camera with four delicate Super Multi Coated Takumar prime lenses. I also have a Contax T3 P&S which I carry with me everyday. I touch-up and print photos myself with a complete yet modest digital “darkroom” set, besides, I do real darkroom job too, processing my E-6 slides. Well, that is some chemical engineering :)

I love to travel, which allows me to get to know and photograph other environments.

Still, my photographs are my best presentation, and I’d like to share my story with my Blog !
